Overview
More than a straight smile
Straight teeth are easier to clean, which lowers your risk of cavities and gum disease, and a balanced bite reduces strain on your jaw. Orthodontics improves both how your smile looks and how your mouth works.
We offer a full range of options, from highly effective traditional braces to discreet ceramic brackets and removable clear aligners, so there is a comfortable path for every age and lifestyle.
After a detailed assessment, Dr. Rubinder Singh recommends the approach that will deliver the best result in the most convenient way for you. Our team at World Dental Care in Amritsar also includes orthodontist Dr. Karan Kapoor, so your treatment is planned with specialist input from the start.
Orthodontic treatment is a commitment of time and care, and we want you to feel confident before you begin. We explain what each option involves, how long it is likely to take and what you will need to do at home, and you receive an itemised written estimate before anything starts. Our intraoral 3D scanner records your teeth and bite digitally, so planning can begin without traditional impression trays.
Is it right for you?
Who it's for and signs you may benefit
Orthodontics is not only about appearance. These are some common reasons children, teenagers and adults come to us for an assessment.
- Crowded or overlapping teethWhen there is not enough room, teeth can twist or overlap. Crowded teeth are harder to clean, so plaque can build up in the tight spaces and raise the risk of decay and gum problems.
- Gaps between teethSpaces can appear because of tooth size, missing teeth or habits such as tongue thrusting. Closing them can improve both appearance and how food is cleared from the teeth.
- Overbite or underbiteIf your upper front teeth sit far in front of the lower teeth, or the lower teeth sit in front of the upper ones, your bite may be putting uneven pressure on your teeth and jaw.
- Crossbite or open biteSome upper teeth may sit inside the lower teeth, or the front teeth may not meet at all when you bite. These can affect chewing and, in some cases, speech.
- Jaw discomfort or uneven wearClicking, aching jaws or teeth that are wearing down unevenly can sometimes be linked to the way your teeth meet. Your dentist will advise whether orthodontics could help.
- Children's developing bitesEarly loss of baby teeth, thumb-sucking that continues, or a jaw that seems to be growing unevenly are all good reasons for an early orthodontic check.
Treatment options
A path for every smile
Every case is different. After your assessment we explain which of these options suit your teeth and your lifestyle, and why.
Traditional metal braces
The most effective option for complex crowding and bite issues, now smaller and more comfortable than ever. Brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire that is adjusted at regular review visits to guide each tooth into place.
Ceramic braces
Tooth-coloured brackets that blend in for a far more discreet look while delivering the same results. They are a popular choice for adults and older teenagers who want fixed braces that are less noticeable.
Clear aligners
Custom transparent trays that gently shift teeth, virtually invisible and removable for eating and cleaning. You change to a new set of aligners at planned intervals, and they need to be worn for most of the day to work well.
Bite correction
Treatment for overbite, underbite and crossbite to improve function as well as appearance. A better bite spreads chewing forces more evenly and can reduce strain on the teeth and jaw.
Early interceptive care
Guiding jaw and tooth development in children at the right age to simplify or avoid later treatment. This may involve simple appliances while the jaws are still growing.
Retainers
Custom retainers protect your investment by holding your newly straightened teeth firmly in place. Teeth naturally tend to drift back, so retainers are an essential part of every treatment plan.
Step by step
Your orthodontic journey
- 1
Consultation and assessment
We listen to what you would like to change, examine your teeth, gums and bite, and check that your teeth and gums are healthy enough to begin. Any decay or gum problems are treated first.
- 2
Records and planning
Digital X-rays, photographs and, where helpful, 3D imaging help us study how your teeth and jaws relate. Using these records, we plan the tooth movements and estimate a realistic timeline.
- 3
Fitting your braces or aligners
Braces are bonded to your teeth in a single comfortable appointment, with no injections needed. If you choose aligners, we check the fit of your first set and show you how to put them in and take them out.
- 4
Regular reviews
You visit us usually every few weeks so we can adjust your braces or check your aligner progress. These visits keep treatment on track and let us answer any questions.
- 5
Retention
When your teeth reach their planned positions, the braces are removed or aligner treatment ends, and we fit retainers to hold your new smile steady while the surrounding bone settles.

Aftercare
Caring for your teeth during and after treatment
Good habits make treatment smoother and help your result last. Your dentist will give you advice specific to your appliance.
Clean carefully every day
Food and plaque collect easily around brackets and wires. Brush slowly around each bracket, use interdental brushes, and rinse well after meals. With aligners, brush your teeth before putting the trays back in.
Choose foods wisely
With fixed braces, avoid hard, sticky and chewy foods such as nuts, toffee and hard sweets, which can break brackets. Cut firmer foods into small pieces. Remove aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water.
Wear aligners as advised
Clear aligners only work while they are in your mouth. Wear them for the hours your dentist recommends and keep them in their case when they are out, so they are not lost or damaged.
Manage soreness
Mild pressure for a day or two after an adjustment or a new set of aligners is normal. Soft foods help. If a wire or bracket rubs, orthodontic wax can protect your cheek until we can see you.
Keep wearing your retainer
Retainers are what keep your teeth straight long term. Follow the wearing schedule you are given, clean them gently, and bring them to your check-ups so we can make sure they still fit well.
